Release Notes

‘Game of Life’ (also known as ‘Life Simulator’ on CodePlex) is a simple demonstration program developed to show the use of Propagation Engine, the source code is available for download under the MS-RL licence, and the executable binaries are also free to use under MS-RL.

The interface for Game of Life uses the Microsoft XNA 3.1 framework (and is also available under the XNA 4.0 framework), it is presented as a single screen which is window-resizable. The default resolution for the window may set at run-time start-up (ranging from 640x480 to 1920x1080) if the console is enable in the build. Alternatively Game of Life will run at ‘full screen’ which will set to the user’s current screen resolution on their primary monitor. The interface will then automatically generate a cell grid in the form of an expanded Moore Neighbourhood which is automatically sized to the window resolution. Once the Interface has loaded, it will appear with a grid of Dead cells with simulation control buttons on the right-hand side.

Game of Life may be configured to use any life-like automaton { see: } by setting Births and Survivals in the Configuration file, "GameOfLife.ini". This file must be placed in the root directory of the executable to work, and must not be renamed. Instructions on using the Configuration File are provided in the Configuration File itself.
